An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Night Escort to be part of our Urgent Community Response (UCR) team in Barnsley. Our UCR team provide a 24/7 service supporting patients in crisis situations with the aim to avoid hospital admission & to keep them at home or in their place of residence.

The role will provide support to the nursing team on an evening in line with lone working risk assessments. Staff will be based at Oaks Park Kendray & go out with nursing teams when they are called out to a crisis call during night-time hours.

The service work 7 days per week, 365 days per year.

Night shifts cover the hours of 21:30 07:30

Staff will occasionally be required to undertake training & supervision during daytime hours as part of their contract. Additional night shifts may be available dependent upon demands

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will be working across the Barnsley area therefore the use of a vehicle to undertake any necessary travel in connection with the duties of the post is essential.

Candidates will have the ability to use their own initiative, have good communication skills and able to manage their time effectively. You will also have the ability to communicate with sensitivity and compassion and manage relationships with people.

You will gain valuable experience & have access too, and be supported with relevant training opportunities within the service to gain necessary skills.

The right candidate will be willing to learn & progress their knowledge, be committed to teamwork & delivering high quality patient care. You will have a positive attitude with a focus on team learning & support.

Hours available include:

  • 19 hours per week 2x night shifts
  • 28.5 hours per week 3x night shifts

Regrettably, we are unable to offer Visa Sponsorship for this role due to the salary falling below the UKVI Minimum visa salary threshold

Under the supervision/direction of registered health care professionals/associate practitioner, within a delegated framework for agreed tasks, be aware of and able to address the basic, routine psychological and physical needs of a defined group of people.

As part of a healthcare team, provide the highest standards of safe and compassionate planned care to people that maximises their recovery and rehabilitation potential.

Develop and maintain meaningful therapeutic relationships with people. Adopt a polite, positive and empathetic approach, providing and receiving routine information appropriately.

Ensure the care experienced is positive and service user safety is maintained. Treat everyone, eg, service users, their relatives, visitors, colleagues etc, with respect, dignity and courtesy and in accordance with the Trusts Values.

Follow and ensure care is provided in accordance with well-established policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines and established clinical care plans.

Undertake the physical aspects of care eg, moving and handling of service users. Use items of equipment in delivering care eg, hoists, wheelchairs etc, (as appropriate to the role), ensuring appropriate instruction on their use has been received.

Attend to the service users personal care needs as required.

Be required to concentrate for periods of time, depending upon the care intervention/care plan eg, following the observation policy, taking, recording of physical observations etc, and raising issues of concern appropriately.

Participate in a flexible rostering arrangement providing 24-hour/7 day care, (as appropriate to the role).

Assist in dealing with verbal/physical aggression using de-escalation techniques, this may include the need for restraint and/or seclusion (as appropriate to the role and in line with Trust policy and training

The content of this post will be reviewed in consultation with the postholder when necessary and in line with the service developments.

  1. To deliver excellent levels of customer service to people, and address or report, in a timely and proactive manner, where these standards have not been met.

  5. Clearly, accurately and contemporaneously, contribute to care documentation, report observations and other service user information in written and electronic format. Be competent in basic IT skills.
