We are pleased to advertise an exciting opportunity to join the complex care therapy team as a Specialist Occupational Therapist. The role is full time 37.5 hours per week and is based at Dewsbury & District Hospital. The team work 5 in 7 days, with shifts times 8am-4pm; some flexibility can be applied to this via flexible work requests and are subject to approval to meet service demand. We are looking for a dynamic, compassionate, experienced Occupational Therapist who has a range of experience working in an acute hospital setting. You will be supported in joining a forward thinking and ambitious therapy team, who strive to support staff to develop and deliver high quality care. Main duties of the job

The complex care team strive to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient when discharging back in the community and we always aim for home first as the preferred option. We work closely with the wider MDT ensuring safe discharge plans are in place. We also provide therapeutic holistic assessments, treatments and rehabilitation for a wide variety of medical presentations on the elderly medicine wards. Expert knowledge in complex cognitive assessments, specialist equipment needs and enhanced communication skills are imperative to this role at Dewsbury. The post holder will contribute to the leadership of the team and supported by the senior management team on a daily basis and will be responsible for supervising junior members of staff, students and delivering training to peers and the wider MDT.

  • To provide advanced Occupational Therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological symptoms associated with in-patient conditions in a broad variety of clinical settings including medical optimised and elderly medical wards.
  • To be responsible for the delivery of a specialised Occupational Therapy service within the in-patient therapy team utilising in-depth theoretical and technical skills.
  • To independently manage a caseload of patients with complex needs using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in order to minimise disability and maximise independence for independent living.
  • To provide leadership and support to junior colleagues in the assessment and management of in-patient clinical conditions including fast track patients.
  • To provide peer support, supervision and second opinions to members of the relevant Inpatient teams.
  • To be responsible for generic technical instructors on duty.
  • To provide clinical education of Occupational therapy students on placement.
  • To undertake a management role where appropriate in the clinical setting, where overseeing, planning and implementing objectives for juniors and assistants as necessary
