Senior Clinical Coder - AFC Band 5, dependant on experience and qualifications

This is a great time to join us as we embrace increased collaborative working with colleagues at Tameside & Glossop ICFT, sharing a Head of Clinical Coding and a Training Manager. We are hopeful that this will allow for more support and consistency across both coding teams.

We are looking for candidates who are ACC qualified and who have experience coding across a range of specialities within an Acute NHS Trust. You should have good knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, be able to demonstrate competency in the use of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications, be proficient in the use of digital systems and have a sound understanding of national clinical coding standards and conventions.

Those who do not hold ACC qualification but have experience in an acute NHS Trust will be considered for a Band 4 role, and those who are looking to begin their career in Clinical Coding, are willing to commit to the training necessary to become qualified, would be welcome to apply for the Band 3 Trainee Clinical Coder post.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidates will possess excellent analytical and judgement skills, be methodical with a high degree of accuracy and excellent attention to detail; you will need to be a team player who can manage your own workload whilst contributing to meeting local and national deadlines. You will have strong interpersonal, digital and organisational skills and will be expected to develop effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels. The role will require some interaction and collaboration with clinical and divisional staff to ensure data is accurately recorded in accordance with national standards.

Applications for a Band 5 role will only be considered from ACC qualified coders and you must be able to demonstrate experience of coding across a wide range of specialties for an acute NHS Trust as well as evidence of attending a Refresher course within the last 3 years.

If you don't have ACC but have significant experience of cross-specialty coding and are working towards obtaining your NCCQ we will consider you for a Band 4 role, however you will be expected to achieve your ACC status within a set timeframe before progression to a band 5. Consideration will also be given to those looking to become band 3 Trainee Clinical Coders (see Band 3 advert). Full support and training will be provided.
