Job summary

Are you passionate about providing person-centred support to people affected by cancer?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Assistant Manager to join our newly established Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at Stockport. This is a unique chance to play a key role in supporting the launch and ongoing development of a service designed to meet the needs of our local population.

Working closely with the Centre Manager, you will support the day-to-day operational running of the Macmillan Cancer Support Centre, ensuring a high-quality, welcoming and responsive service for patients, families and carers.

Main duties of the job

The Macmillan Cancer Support Centre Assistant Manager will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred cancer support services within a newly established Macmillan Cancer Support Centre. You will provide leadership and management for the centre volunteers and the cancer care coordinator team, while supporting service development aligned with the personalised cancer care agenda. You will ensure patients, carers, and professionals have access to timely information, emotional support, and appropriate signposting. Working collaboratively across hospital and community settings, the role also contributes to strategic service improvements and deputises for the Centre Manager when required.

You will work both autonomously and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, using your expertise to assess and respond to the individual needs of patients and carers through effective triage, supportive listening, and tailored information provision. The role requires confidence in independent decision-making, including periods of lone working, alongside the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with healthcare professionals across acute and community services. Acting as a specialist resource, you will support colleagues with cancer information and contribute to a coordinated, holistic approach to care delivery.
