Job summary
An experienced optometrist is required to cover 12 months maternity leave in paediatric optometry clinics.
This is a rewarding role working as part of a multidisciplinary team of 9 orthoptists and 2 optometrists. The post involves 5.25 hours weekly in paediatric optometry clinics assessing children aged 6 months - 7 years.
Community paediatric clinics take place on Fridays in Adswood Children's Centre and Heaton Norris health centre twice a month, Woodley health centre monthly as well at the Cavendish Hospital monthly. A car owner/driver is essential for the post.
Main duties of the job
To undertake a specialist paediatric optometry service within Stockport NHS Foundation Trust to provide expert optometric advice and the highest standard of quality care to paediatric patients.
Working with the orthoptists and other paediatric optometrist, the post holder will be working within a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnosis and management of patients attending the paediatric service.
Providing assessment, diagnosis and management for paediatric patients and developing and implementing effective treatment plans.
To work autonomously in the Paediatric Optometry clinic, involving work without supervision in providing diagnosis, management and treatment of patients.
To determine the clinical diagnosis and develop effective management/treatment plans.
Undertaking detailed refraction, fundus and media checks and provision of appropriate prescription in children aged 6 months - 7 years.
To take direct referrals, prioritise and judge requirements for onward referral.
