Job summary
We are currently recruiting Maternity Support Workers (MSW) to join our team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
MSW's work alongside midwives to provide both clinical care and emotional support to women and their families.
Please note that some roles will require shift work, including nights and weekends.
Maternity Support Workers are expected to complete the MSW Apprenticeship Programme (or equivalent) within two years of appointment, unless already enrolled.
Candidates must also hold the Care Certificate or be willing to complete it within 12 weeks of starting.

Main duties of the job
The Maternity Support Worker uses additional skills to enhance the service offered to women and their families.
MSW's will work alongside but under the guidance of, practitioners at all levels from the multidisciplinary team including, but not limited to: obstetricians; midwives; ultra sonographers; physiotherapists and advanced practitioners.
MSWs may serve as a point of contact/support for women and their families and provide clinical, physical, psychological and emotional care and support; they provide appropriate information and, where necessary, signpost to wider support organisations. They report to registered practitioners where planned delegated care has been provided.
MSW's work under the guidance and direction of the midwife to assist in the delivery of care to women in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. MSW's will also assist in the care of the newborn as appropriate on the postnatal ward.
