Job summary

A rewarding rolehas arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated nurse to join our Colorectal Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team.

You will work as part of a team of Colorectal Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists and will also work effectively as an autonomous practitioner.

You will be a vital core member of the colorectal multidisciplinary team providing specialist advice and support to both patients and their families as well as other health care professionals.

This post is 12 months fixed term.

Main duties of the job

You will also act as a key worker for patients with colorectal cancer throughout their cancer journey as well as undertake and further develop the risk stratified cancer follow up programme.

You will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have confidence in communicating with staff at all levels within the organisation as well as patients and families. Sound clinical reasoning skills are essential, and you will be able to prioritise your workload in order to meet competing demands.

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • 1st Level RGN
  • Mentorship & Preceptorship or ENB998 or equivalent
  • Proven track record of supervising and teaching staff members
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent / or working towards.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • IT Skills
  • Evidence of continued Professional Development

Desirable

  • Advanced communication skills

Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive current working and theoretical knowledge of surgical or oncology nursing
  • Knowledge of Risk Stratification Pathways
  • Knowledge of colorectal cancer

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the urgent suspected cancer pathway standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Cancer Agenda

Experience

Essential

  • Senior Nurse experience in colorectal surgical nursing (Band 6 or above) oncology or palliative care.
  • Experience of research and implementation of new practices.
  • Experience of developing and writing integrated Care Pathways
