HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist (Community Focused)

Job responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please emailmtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.netif this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
• Independent Nurse Prescriber Or working towards
• Sexual Health Qualification including: STIF Core and Plus, HIV Masterclass
• ENB 934 or sexual health diploma or degree
• Evidence of professional updating
• Physical examination module or working towards
• Member of NHIVNA/BHIVA

Desirable

• Management or supervision qualification or program of study
• Management or supervision qualification or program of study. Evidence of continuing education at Master's level
• Motivational interviewing or FRSH qualification
• Counselling qualification

Experience

Essential

• Experience working in an integrated sexual health service with experience in HIV care
• Community Nursing experience
• Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner and clinical decision making, managing a caseload of complex patients
• Teaching/training mentoring experience
• Experience on the principals of partner notification for STIs including HIV
• Skilled and experience in working in venepuncture and cytology and point of care testing
• Experience of working with the wider health partners in managing patient care

Desirable

• Evidence of participation in Clinical audit undertaking
• Experience in community health or part of a Primary care team
• Evidence of developing clinical pathways and policy
• Experience of working with patients in a variety of settings, excluding acute care
• Research experience
• Experience of working with vulnerable or ethnic minority groups
• Experience of mental health and substance abuse

Knowledge

Essential

• Understands the role of the HIV CNS in assessment and care planning to meet health and wellbeing needs.
• Ability to demonstrate understanding of current developments in NHS and the Sexual Health Strategy and HIV standards of care
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of currents treatments of HIV and STI's.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of agencies which support and compliment HIV services
• Demonstrate understanding of Primary Health Care involvement in HIV care
• Ability to recognise the impact of psychosocial issues on patients and how to manage this.
• Ability to apply knowledge and skills to a broad range of clinically and professionally challenging situations.
• Understands the principles and concepts of clinical governance
• Knowledge of health promotion, disease prevention skills and the current National HIV guidelines
• Demonstrates ability to build and maintain productive and positive relationships within the multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

• Knowledge of current epidemiological trends within locality
• Understanding of resource management
• Knowledge of relevant services available locally and nationally
