Job summary
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK's largest employers, with a wide ranging portfolio of specialty work and a strong academic record. In partnership with The University of Manchester and other collaborators we are rapidly making Manchester the centre of cutting-edge research to improve healthcare worldwide.
We are currently looking for an Emergency Medicine Consultant to join our fantastic team, assisting us in continuing to provide exceptional patient care whilst leading on cutting edge research and education in the Emergency Medicine field.
Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration: an active licence, ceased license or pending application with the GMC at the point of application. Candidates who do not fit this criteria will not progress through to the shortlisting stage.
Main duties of the job
Clinical duties will involve senior leadership in the supervision and provision of the management and care of all acutely ill and injured patients. There is the expectation that duties will be shared with the current consultants and each consultant will share part of the workload across all sites. The nature of the post necessitates that Category II work may be undertaken, the arrangements for which will be agreed with the successful applicant on appointment.
Currently the department operates a system whereby all new patients attending on a particular day are nominally assigned to the consultant on-call for the day. Consultants are expected to undertake all immediate and subsequent administration relevant to the care of patients assigned in this way. The consultant will have responsibility for professional supervision and management of junior medical staff whilst on-call for the day.
In the spirit of continuing professional development this post can support a special interest that fits in with directorate and Trust objectives.
