Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic Specialist Nurse for Children in Care for Hampshire (base to be agreed at interview) within the Children and Families Division. Although based at in the South of the County there is a requirement to travel across Hampshire to provide cover. You will be joining a leading organisation that is both forward thinking and innovative.

You will be an integral member of the team of Specialist Nurses located throughout Hampshire delivering the health agenda for children in care as identified in the statutory guidance (Promoting the Health and Wellbeing of Looked after Children, 2015). You will be an experienced nurse with current experience and knowledge of working in the field of Looked after children. Your role will require excellent leadership and management skills alongside clinical assessment skills. The role requires partnership working with both the CCG in Hampshire and partner agencies and you must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment towards achieving the outcomes to improve the health of this specific group of vulnerable children and young people. You will be expected to demonstrate clinical expertise and governance in all aspects of your work with particular attention to safeguarding children whilst being supported by robust organisational supervision, guidelines and policies.

Main duties of the job

*To work under the guidance of the Clinical Team Lead for the Children in Care Team for Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust (SHFT), to develop and deliver services for Children in Care within Hampshire area covered by Southern Health Foundation Trust.

*Undertake, co-ordinate and monitor the delivery and quality of the health assessments of Children in Care within SHFT.

*To work with multi-disciplinary groups to develop systems that facilitates the delivery of appropriate health care, by the post holder to Children in Care.

*Be an active member of an HCC Foster Panel to assist in the approval of foster carers for Hampshire.

*To co-ordinate, provide and deliver health services to Children in Care to enable the organisation to fulfil its responsibilities to commissioners of services to improve the health of Children in Care.

*Provide Children in Care advice and support to staff working within SHFT.

*To contribute and deliver health training to foster carers and HCC staff to promote the health and wellbeing of looked after children.
