The Department of Anaesthetics is a friendly and supportive and we have achieved ACSA accreditation from the Royal College of Anaesthetists. We welcome innovation and encourage and support service development initiatives where it improves care to our patients.
You will be required to work across both sites .The job plan will include 10 Programmed Activities including 1 SPA.
The Anaesthetic department is aligned with the St George's Hospital teaching programme for medical students and the SW Thames School of Anaesthesia training programme. We have ACSA accreditation. There is a well-established simulation teaching programme which may give opportunities for suitably qualified applicants. We score highly each year in the national hip fracture database report and are one of the busiest 5 units in London. Our National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) pathway and patient outcomes score as excellent.
Main duties of the job
Principle Duties of the PostThe principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients:1. To always, comply with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended orsubstituted from time to time.2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is always maintained.3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and inagreement with your Clinical Director.4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trustresources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's corporate Induction (orarranged Consultant Induction).6. To participate in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.7. To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and outpatients under your care

This will be discussed in detail with the post holder onappointment and become operational.Job plans will be reviewed annually, following an appraisal meeting. The job plan will be aprospective agreement that sets out a consultants typical working pattern, duties, objectives andresponsibilities for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of a consultants professional practiceincluding clinical work, teaching, research, education, managerial responsibilities and external commitments.Additional programmed activities may be offered to the post holder. Any offer of additional programmedactivities will be based on the needs of the service and in line with the Trust objectives and will be reviewedon an annual basis.This job plan will include 1.5 SPA (core) for revalidation and mandatory training in anaesthetics.New consultants also have 0.5 SPA time for 12 months (on top of the core 1.5 SPA allocation) for mentorship andguidance with an allocated senior consultant. Any extra SPA above the core standard SPA time will be reviewed after 12months during appraisal and job planning, to maintain or decrease it as required.Additional programmed activities may be offered to the post holder. Any offer of additional programmed activities willbe based on the needs of the service and in line with the Trust objectives and will be reviewed on an annual basis.All new Consultants will be allocated a mentor for guidance and support.The trust also offers a New Consultants Programme run in house by the GMC which includes external speakers.
