Main duties of the job

First up is to help with the daily operations, ensuring the dispensary is set up and running efficiently. After checking in with the Senior Technician, who briefs you on any urgent tasks or updates from the previous night, you get cracking--dispensing medications for in-patients and out-patients, double-checking accuracy with a keen eye for detail. Patient counselling is a highlight, as you guide them through their prescriptions, making sure they leave feeling informed and reassured. Before wrapping up, you ensure the dispensary is spotless and stocked, ready for the next shift.

As a Pharmacy Technician, your role is essential for the smooth operation of our dispensary. Here's how you'll contribute daily:

  • Dispensary Management: Assist the chief or senior technician in overseeing dispensing services to ensure seamless operation.

  • Stock Management: Maintain pharmacy stocks by ordering and requisitioning supplies from the Pharmacy Store as required.

  • Patient Counselling: Provide guidance to patients and carers on medication usage, ensuring they understand their prescriptions.

  • Support for Prescribing: Promote adherence to the Trust formulary and local prescribing guidelines to enhance medication effectiveness.

  • Training and Mentorship: Support and supervise trainee pharmacy technicians, trainee pharmacists, and other pharmacy staff to foster a skilled team.

Refer to the JD and candidate information pack for more details.
