We are looking for an exceptional Clinical Associate Psychologist to join our new specialist acute inpatient service for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.
You will be joining a passionate and supportive team of Clinical Psychologists and Psychotherapists who can offer supervision, support, and professional development.
To apply for this position, you must have completed the British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited CAP apprenticeship training programme in a relevant specialism.
Main duties of the job
To support the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychological assessment, formulation and intervention within the inpatient serviceThis will include the delivery of specialist individual, group and systemic interventions, as well as providing consultation, interventions and training for carers and staff. To make significant contributions to service design, audit and research To work closely with local universities, including maintaining direct links with the local Doctoral Programme for Clinical Psychology. To act as an independent and semi-autonomous practitioner with freedom to act as the role requires
To carry a defined caseload of people receiving specific psychological interventions and act as key worker for them as appropriate
To undertake specialised psychological assessment and formulation
To work with complex clients as routine if appropriate to the service, with highly complex clients discussed with clinical supervisors, psychologists or line managers
To communicate clearly and empathetically with clients, families and carers
To communicate formulations and information professionally, sensitively and diplomatically, often in highly emotive situations, to clients, relatives, carers and other healthcare professionals
To communicate confidential and highly complex personal information concerning psychological needs, obtained through assessments and interventions, to referring agents and to the client themselves
To ensure that risk is assessed and managed in line with Trust policies and procedures
To provide evidence-based psychologically informed interventions (individual and group), such as CBT or third-wave CBT interventions, as appropriate to your skills and training
To maintain high-quality clinical records in accordance with Trust policy and procedures
To offer reflective practice and system support to the MDT and colleagues as appropriate
To inform and support families and carers as appropriate to the role

- Degree in Psychology or BPS accredited conversion course (with Graduate basis for registration)
- Professional qualification as a Clinical Associate in Psychology, and successful completion of the end point assessment on Clinical Associate Psychologist Apprenticeship (Masters CAP course)
- BPS registration as an accredited CAP (or be in process of applying for CAP accreditation with BPS)
- Experience of working as a trainee, apprentice or qualified Clinical Associate Psychologist within the specific clinical area of practice
- Experience of working with complex mental health problems
- Awareness of the range of presentations within the relevant area of practice and of the common multi-disciplinary services offered
