Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Later Life branch of the Swindon Psychological Therapies Service, for a Counselling Psychologist in training to provide input to service users under the Complex Interventions and Treatment Team (CITT). This post would be suitable for someone in the later stages of their training who has prior experience of working with a relevant client group. The post would be offered on a preceptorship basis, leading to a band 7 role on qualification. We are a flexible employer and there will be opportunities for blended site-based and home working options.

Please note that registration with the Counselling Psychology Doctoral training programme at UWE is a requirement for this post.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve offering high quality psychological assessment and interventions for CITT service users with severe and enduring mental health difficulties and neurodegenerative conditions, and their carers. You would be joining the team at an exciting time in the development of the psychological therapies provision for older adults in Swindon, working closely with our Later Life Lead Psychologist and our experienced Art and Music Therapists. We are also recruiting into a vacant senior Psychology role for our inpatient Later Life wards. The post holder would have a role in providing consultation and supervision to CITT staff. There is sufficient service need and flexibility within the role to offer candidates sessions within other parts of the service, including Adults of Working Age, and/or the Memory Service under the supervision of a Lead Clinical Psychologist who is working towards the qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology.

The post is based at the Victoria Centre, Swindon, which houses several teams within older people's mental health as well as two later life inpatient wards. You will be part of a supportive and passionate group of psychologists and psychological therapists that encompass the Later Life branch of the Swindon Psychological Therapies Service (PTS) at this base.
