Job summary

This post is best suited to a trainee wishing to gain specialist surgical experience in stone surgery & Lithotripsy.

The post holder will participate in a 1:14 on call rota and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of ward patients.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the service activities in the department.

Main duties of the job

This post is best suited to a trainee wishing to gain specialist surgical experience in stone surgery & Lithotripsy.

The post holder will participate in a 1:14 on call rota and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of ward patients.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the service activities in the department.

Research

1/2 day dedicated research session is provided for all fellows. There are several ongoing research projects and fellows are expected to participate in these projects, successfully publish, as well as undertaking at least one audit project during their training.

Teaching

The Bristol Urological Institute has an active teaching programme and Fellows and Registrars are expected to actively participate in this activity. The post holder will be available to undertake teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors as required. In certain circumstances you may be required to cover a colleague's clinical duties in order that they may deliver teaching sessions.

Basic Qualification/Prizes

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
  • MRCS or equivalent Evidence of training progression

Desirable

  • FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS).
  • Prizes Completed structured training in urology and wishing to pursue a career in Stone surgery ATLS/ALS

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
  • Some Experience as a specialist registrar or equivalent, in urology)
  • Skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.

Desirable

  • Experience in ureteroscopy and PCNL.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of understanding and application of knowledge of speciality
  • Willing to seek help from senior colleagues as appropriate

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Competent in the management of elective and emergency urology patients
  • Competent in core urology procedures (Cystoscopy, TURP, TURBT, Stenting ...etc)
  • Experience of basic life support and resuscitation skills

Desirable

  • Accepts responsibility and able to take leadership role for ward based emergencies.
