We are looking to recruit dynamic and enthusiastic part time Band 6 Specialist Nurses in our Laser department. This position is to join our Skin Laser team based on Gate 24 in the Brunel Building, and which is part of the largest Division at North Bristol Trust.

The department is a small, dedicated team of Doctors and Specialist Nurses who work alongside Health Care Assistants and clerical team members to provide an innovative and expanding service. The department treats both NHS and self-funding patients and provides a range of services including hair removal, scar treatment and removal of lesions.

  • You will gain experience of working in a niche and dynamic Outpatient department involving both daytime and evening shifts.
  • You will be supported by the wider Nursing team and Doctors to develop your skills and continuing professional development.
  • You will be key to providing an excellent nurse led service for North Bristol Trust patients, providing a variety of simple and more complex laser treatments.
  • You will work with the wider team to jointly manage change to provide an outstanding outpatient service and patient experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Gain competence in using the Alexandrite and LP Nd:YAG laser
  • Carry-out own Nurse led clinics, in particular for laser hair removal (after period of supervision)
  • Provide information to patients via email and telephone
  • Support administrative running of clinics
  • Work holistically with patients, providing psychological support and signposting to services when required
  • Prepare and shut down laser rooms
  • Ensure correct decontamination of stock and laser rooms
  • Monitor and order stocks of consumables
  • Liaise with Medical Engineering and Laser companies for repairs and maintenance of laser machines.
  • With the support of the department Senior Sister liaise with works/estates departments to ensure all equipment is properly maintained in accordance with Trust policy.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based care to all patients in the clinical area.
