Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Finance Team as either a Band 4 Development Accountant with progression to Band 5, or a Band 5 Management Accountant, depending on qualifications, experience and demonstrated capability.

The Band 4 Development Accountant role is ideal for graduates seeking their first finance position or individuals pursuing an alternative route into accountancy. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical and numerical skills, a solid academic background, and a commitment to studying towards a recognised professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA). The role offers a structured development programme covering a broad range of finance activities, with progression to Band 5 normally expected after approximately 12 months, subject to performance and achievement of objectives.

The Band 5 Management Accountant role is suited to candidates with relevant finance experience who can contribute from the outset. Applicants should have experience supporting financial reporting, month-end processes, management accounting activities, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis. The ability to interpret financial information, investigate variances and support decision-making is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing a proactive management accounting service to one of the Trust's divisions. This includes working closely with Senior Managers and Clinicians within the Trust, advising on financial issues and dealing with complex financial matters and enquiries.

The Management Accountant will be expected to produce monthly budget statements from the ledger in accordance with the Trust reporting timetables and high quality financial reports and analyses, including non-financial data and identifies and explains directorate variances and trends.

They will support the finance manager with the directorate's annual budget setting, regular budget holder meetings and preparing forecasts and performance reports.

The post holder is expected to ensure a customer focused service is delivered to the divisions and provide technical finance support to non-finance colleagues.
