Our team provide a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical services and extended clinical roles to a vast number of clinical areas, including many tertiary specialities.

Our rotations are located on all the four main sites and most of your time will be spent in clinical areas, engaging with patients and colleagues.
You will have the opportunity to work with dedicated specialist pharmacists including our eight consultant pharmacists.

Main duties of the job
The OUH pharmacy residency programme offers:
- Experience across multiple specialities and hospital sites allowing you to develop a breadth of experience for your clinical pharmacy portfolio, with the opportunity to complete nine four-month rotations in areas such as:medicine, surgery, stroke, medicines information, intensive care, neurology, paediatrics, renal, infectious diseases, and cancer.
- A postgraduate clinical diploma delivered by Cardiff University
- The opportunity to lead the dispensary during out-of-hours services
- Growth opportunity by completing three years of varied shift work to challenge and stretch pharmacists to become experts at prioritisation and organisation.
Join a team of 12 friendly and dynamic resident pharmacists who work collaboratively and are responsible for providing the Trust's out-of-hours pharmacy service. This is achieved by working varied shift patterns across weekends and weekdays, alongside a variety of clinical rotations. A fantastic amount of peer support is provided by working within such a close-knit team of like-minded individuals. There is also an experienced team of senior-on-call pharmacists who provide support throughout the night for those calls which need specialist and senior advice.

- To participate in the out of hours resident pharmacist rota, providing an evening on site (from the JR) and a from home on-call service to all the Oxford University Hospitals. (See attachment which highlights the current shift pattern). Service provision is also provided to other contracted organisations. The rota covers weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. This involves working late and night shift patterns. The out of hours service is supported by a senior pharmacist on call from home via a radio page. The out of hours service is currently under review. Shift pattern and working hours out of hours may change following a formal consultation period.
- To record all out of hours calls on the on call records database in order to provide a measure of service use, to allow peer review, clinical governance, training and to ensure appropriate follow up of particular identified problems and/or patients.
- To participate in the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical services for all Oxford University Hospitals.
- Complete a local induction programme including core training, and maintain core skills throughout employment.
- Act as a role model for pharmacy within the Trust, demonstrating Pharmacy Professional Standards and our Trust values
- Deliver compassionate excellence via a patient focused clinical pharmacy service, in accordance with national medicines optimisation principles and local clinical pharmacy procedures.
- Analyse prescriptions, alongside technical resources, patient records and information from patient consults to form an opinion on the most appropriate course of action, communicate this in a way that supports shared decision making.
- Participate in and promote antimicrobial stewardship activities.
- Accurately and sensitively communicate medicines related information to a variety of healthcare professionals and patients including those with language difficulties, physical or mental disabilities.
- Plan and organise your own workload in alignment with professional and organisational priorities.
- Delegate and escalate appropriately.
- Support compliance with medicines related legislative and regulatory requirements, including maintaining the security and quality of medicines stock.
- Undertake Audits and Quality Improvement Projects to support our culture of continuous improvement.
- Report unexpected or untoward events via the Trust's incident reporting system.
- Where relevant to a rotation complete training in clinical trials and support the supply of investigational medicinal products.
- Undertake a program of study leading to a Postgraduate Clinical Diploma.
- Support the training and mentoring of our trainee pharmacists and technicians, as well as colleagues who are new to the Trust.
- Participate in weekend and bank holiday working according to the service needs.
- Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Clinical Director of Pharmacy, or Associate Director of Pharmacy Clinical Service.
