This Apprenticeship will last for 16 months, and successful completion leads to a Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship. During that time, you will be employed in one clinical area in one of the 4 hospitals in the Trust and undertake a range of training to support in the development of knowledge, behaviours and clinical practice.
For some apprentices this can lead to higher level qualifications and to have the opportunity to work through to degree level.

The successful applicant will be supported to:
Complete the Care Certificate
Develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours to achieve the Level 2 HealthCare Support Worker Apprenticeship
Achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Care (Adult) (optional)
Achieve Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2 in English and Maths where required
Apprentices are employed on a 16-month fixed term contract but will have the opportunity to apply for full time employment within the Trust, following their apprenticeship, if they meet all their training requirements and show motivation and commitment to their role.
Apprenticeship posts are available in Complex Medicine Unit A and the Hyperacute Stroke Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and in Juniper and Laburnum Wards at the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
Complex Medicine Unit A, on Level 7 of the JR site, is busy but fun! Caring for people with complex, long-term conditions who have come into hospital with an acute medical problem, many of whom stay for several weeks, the role of the Level 2 Apprentice will be crucial to the health and well-being of our patients. With a focus on rehabilitation and promoting independence, you can expect to develop meaningful relationships with patients and their families and develop specialist skills in communication and caring for people with dementia. Completing your apprenticeship on CMU-A will give you the knowledge and skills that will set off your career in healthcare.
Hyperacute Stroke Unit located on ward 7E at the JR, the HASU team work at the cutting edge of stroke care. Advances in clinical treatment over the last decade, including clot-busting drugs, clot retrieval procedures, and surgery for brain bleeds, have made stroke medicine an acute and exciting field of work. Focusing on acute care, with long-term rehabilitation delivered in another setting, the role of the Level 2 Apprentice will be to work closely with the nursing and therapy teams to deliver consistent, individualised, goal-based care for every patient. You can expect to be supported to develop your knowledge and skills in the rich and highly rated learning environment of the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit.
Horton Acute General Medicine
Horton Hospital provides the opportunity for young apprentices in the North of the county to start their nursing career inone of the countrys leading teaching hospital trusts. We provide a friendly and supportive community in which to learn and tomake a real contribution to the community which we serve. There are currently openings availablefor apprentices on the medical wards, providing the opportunity to develop the foundational knowledge andskills which are fundamental to the whole of health care.

Job Summary:
As a member of the nursing team, you will support registered nurses and colleagues to deliver a high standard of care to patients in a caring and safe environment.
To work in a supernumerary capacity (for the first six to nine months) as part of the ward team in developing and maintaining services provided to patients and contribute to the safe, efficient and smooth running of the ward/clinical area. To maintain the dignity and privacy of all patients and respect their right to confidentiality. To complete and maintain on an ongoing basis a generic and specific portfolio of clinical competencies the Care Certificate and a level 2 intermediate apprenticeship and functional skills (if required) in literacy and numeracy to include a level2 Diploma in Care. All of these qualifications will require regular attendance in class. Progress will be reviewed with the assessor, ward manager and team leader at regular intervals and through an appraisal process. You should understand your own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to registered staff. All work will be carried out under the direct supervision and allocation of appropriate healthcare tasks from registered healthcare practitioners.
To be eligible for an Apprenticeship with Oxford University Hospitals, UK Nationals must have been ordinarily a resident in the UK or the European Economic Area for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship; or have been ordinarily resident in a combination of the UK and EEA for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship. Non-UK Nationals must have permission from the UK Government to Live in the UK and been a resident in the UK for at least the previous 3 years before the start of the Apprenticeship.
