Job summary

We are looking for a Level 3 diploma qualified Anatomical Pathology Technologist to assist the Service Manager and the Team of Anatomical Pathology Technicians and MEO's in the running of a safe, secure, effective and comprehensive mortuary, post mortem examination and medical examiner service for the needs of the hospital, HM Coroner and the Community and to ensure that deceased patients and their relatives are treated with dignity and respect at all times.

Consideration will be given to an applicant who is currently working towards their level 3 qualification and has a reasonable level of mortuary experience.

Further training in all aspects of mortuary provision will be given in order to perform a broad range of duties under the supervision of a fully trained and qualified member of staff (where applicable). An opportunity to attend the relevant diploma/level 4 course and sit the diploma/level 4 examination will be offered when the appropriate competencies have been achieved.

Main duties of the job

To work within the team of APT's and MEO's

To receive further training in advanced aspects of mortuary work and assist the APT's and consultant pathologists with routine, non-routine, CT, special and high-risk post mortem examinations, as appropriate

Participation in an out of hours on call rota will be required when deemed competent with general mortuary duties, front of house service, office functions and body handling elements.

To receive patients and ensure that they are accurately identified, registered, weighed, measured and labelled prior to storage.

To keep accurate records of jewellery or valuables that may accompany the deceased, in line with Trust policy.

To keep records up to date and stored safely to ensure compliance with good work practices for the standards of accreditation and Human Tissue Act.

To facilitate the release of the deceased to funeral directors, in line with Trust and Coroner's policy.
