The Assistant General Manager post is an exciting opportunity to broaden and strengthen operational experience and gain responsibility for a diverse service line of busy specialties within an acute Trust setting.

The role will focus on operational management of a service line of clinical specialities within a supportive, inclusive, proactive division. You will be responsible for day-to-day problem solving across all specialties, managing patient pathways to achieve access targets, managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as opportunities to initiate high level strategic plans with the support of your line manager.

This role will be based in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Main duties of the job

- The post holder will hold responsibility for either sustaining or working towards delivery of the RTT 18 week target for all specialties

- Require you to be proactive in the management of the service line to support patients being seen within relevant access target times

- You will be responsible for day-to-day operational management of the service line.

- You will be responsible for fostering strong relationships with clinical and non-clinical teams within the service line and the division.

- Develop independent problem-solving ability towards strategic decision making in order to deliver change initiatives and process efficiencies.

Job responsibilities

- To support the Deputy General Manager and General Manager to achieve maximum wait targets across the Service Line.

- To provide frontline day to day management of waiting lists for the division. To ensure that appropriate management systems are in place to provide accurate validated data quality. Providing advice, support, leadership and decision making for daily issues within these areas.

- To develop business proposals and assist the Deputy General Manager and General Manager in the implementation of business plans, operational strategies and delivery of Trust objectives.

- To assist the Deputy General Manager and General Manager in the development of single-issue business cases to support the development of the service.

- To assist in achieving and maintaining the delivery of national and local access targets relating to in-patient, day case and outpatient waiting times. Ability to analyse complex and conflicting data from multiple sources. To support and monitor the team to achieve this.

- To participate in a wide range of meetings and to represent the Deputy General Manager and/or General Manager as requested.

- To contribute to the re-design, development and implementation of new processes within the speciality to improve patient pathways, access and quality of care.

- To assist with the investigation of incidents and complaints relating to defined clinical areas and departments. To take appropriate action, formulating Action Plans for the Deputy General Manager and or General Manager.

  • Able to communicate effectively through verbal and written presentations in a clear, articulate manner
  • GCSE English and Math's to C grade or higher
  • IT experience of Microsoft Excel to manage data and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development such as attendance at management training (I Lead, I Manage)
  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent
