Job summary

We are a progressive team with a strong commitment to develop the scope of the specialty within the Trust and to advance the specialty with partner Trusts within the Great North Healthcare Alliance.

In this post, the expectation would be to contribute to the provision of comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial (OMFS) services based primarily at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, including a commitment to the on-call rota. As part of the development of the department's scope of practice we are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with sub-specialist interests in temporomandibular joint surgery and/or trauma. The Great North Healthcare Alliance has opened opportunities of developing the specialty regionally, with opportunities within job planning for peripheral clinical activity.

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • FRCS (OMFS) (or equivalent)
  • GMC registration
  • On, or eligible for inclusion on, the GMC specialist list in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Desirable

  • Broad experience in OMFS at senior trainee or consultant level
  • Evidence of sub-specialty training and or relevant courses

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Training and experience in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion for general oral and maxillofacial surgery.
  • Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre.

Desirable

  • Sub-specialty interest and experience in TMJ surgery e.g TMJ arthroscopy/arthrocentesis and open TMJ surgery
  • Evidence within training or at consultant level of experience of working within the MDT setting

Management and Administration Experience

Essential

  • Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty
  • Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance

Desirable

  • Proven management and administrative experience and understanding of management goals.
