The following overview was written by one of our current Junior Fellows and gives a more personal trainee perspective on what is on offer "This position offers an exciting opportunity for develop skills, knowledge and experience for those who are interested in pursuing a career in General Surgery. This job will entail a rotational position in the following surgical specialties; Colorectal, Intestinal Failure, Hepato-pancreato-biliary and Transplantation. Successful applicants will be expected to perform duties and take clinical responsibility at ST1-2 level. These will include the day-to-day management of patients of the respective surgical specialty, weekly attendance in outpatient surgical clinics, as well as opportunities to develop one's surgical skills assisting in theatre. It will also include surgical on-call shifts at the Freeman Hospital (FY2/ST1-2 Level) to maintain one's acute skills. This is an ideal position for those interested in completing a Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training (CREST). The Freeman Hospital offers highly specialist surgical opportunities to successful applicants. From robotic colorectal surgery to interventional radiology assisted procedures, this position will provide ample exposure to interesting cases and allow development of one's portfolio.

Main duties of the job

The post would suit a trainee in Surgery with an interest in mainstream surgical specialities. Ideally the trainee will have completed core training and will have passed or be studying for MRCS, but trainees having only completed foundation training will also be considered. This post will provide a solid basis from which to apply for core training or specialist ST3+ programs.
