The role of Peer Support Worker has been developed to specifically utilise the skills of people who have lived experience of having received Secondary Care Mental Health services. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, Peer Support Workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.
The South Leicestershire Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) provides support to people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties offering comprehensive recovery focussed care packages in community and clinic settings. It is targeted at people with a wide range of mental health difficulties with the aim of improving their quality of life and ultimately, preventing admission to hospital. The service takes referrals from GP's, Forensic Service, PIER (Psychosis Intervention & Early Recovery), CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and in-patient areas.
Please note that possessing a UK driving licence and means to drive is an essential requirement for this role, any applicants without a driving licence and car will not be considered.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will offer support and guidance to Service users experiencing mental health problems impacting on their life and well being, offering companionship, understanding and establishing a caring, professional relationship to improve individuals socialisation and psychological resilience for those service users with a chronic illness or those needing support in recovery.
In addition to Establishing supportive, positive and respectful relationships with all people you come in contact with. Providing peer support, maintaining professional boundaries. Helping people identify recovery goals themselves.
Supporting service users to identify and overcome fears within a relationship of empathy and trust. Under taking appropriate administrative duties
