Job summary
The PMVA (Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression) Instructor Lead is responsible for delivering high-quality training across the Trust, ensuring staff are equipped to manage distressed behaviours safely and effectively. The role promotes a person-centred approach to care while reducing the use of restrictive interventions. Through training, mentorship, and direct support, the postholder will help integrate PMVA principles into clinical practice, fostering a culture of safety, learning, and continuous improvement.
The PMVA Instructor Lead will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, providing specialist advice, debriefing support, and risk assessment guidance to improve outcomes for both staff and service users. Additionally, the role involves collaboration with leadership to align training programmes with national training standards, trust policies and legislation.
Main duties of the job
The PMVA Instructor Lead delivers high-quality, evidence-based training on the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression. They ensure alignment with national standards and mentor the Senior PMVA Instructors. The role focuses on reducing restrictive interventions and promoting person-centred care.
The role goes beyond delivering training. The PMVA Instructor Lead mentors and supports teams in real-time during high-risk incidents. They work closely with multidisciplinary teams, helping to develop care plans for service users with complex behaviours. Regular post-incident debriefs allow teams to reflect and improve. They also offer one-on-one coaching and hands-on support.
The postholder also drives data analysis, audits, and research to improve PMVA practices. They maintain training records, manage resources, and ensure compliance with governance and safeguarding standards. As a trusted mentor, they empower frontline staff to handle challenging situations with skill and confidence. By fostering a culture of learning, resilience, and safety, they help create a workforce that is competent, adaptable, and compassionate.
