Offered as a 12-month secondment, this is a unique opportunity to lead a dedicated team in delivering exceptional care to some of our most vulnerable patients at a critical point in their journey. Youll play a vital role in shaping services, inspiring others, and driving quality improvement all within a supportive and progressive environment. Main duties of the job

As Ward Leader on our Older adult base ward and CDI unit, you will oversee the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients during the acute and recovering phase of their hospital journey. Youll lead and support a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high standards of clinical practice, staff development, and patient experience. Key duties include coordinating admissions and discharges, managing staffing and resources, and fostering a positive and inclusive team culture. You'll also play a pivotal role in quality improvement initiatives, service development, and supporting junior staff. This 12-month secondment offers a fantastic opportunity to step into senior leadership and help shape the future of older persons care

The Specialty and Integrated Medicine (SIM) clinical service unit encompasses many specialities, a broad range of jobs and a common goal of providing seamless integrated patient centred care. We strive to be SIMply the best!

Our services include Older Peoples Medicine (including Same Day Emergency Care), Diabetes, Endocrinology, HIV Outpatients, Leeds Sexual Health, Infectious Diseases and a variety of related specialisms. We work closely with other teams across the Trust, facilitating the admission, care and discharge of one of its largest acute patient cohorts.

  • Registered Nurse (Level 1)
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification.

Desirable

  • Degree in Nursing or a related subject

Experience

Essential

  • Senior nurse with at least 18 months post-registration experience at junior sister level or equivalent.
  • Experience in managing and leading a team.
  • Budget management
  • Audit and standard setting

Desirable

  • Service development and/or change management

Skills & behaviours

Essential

  • Evidence of continued professional development. Willing to undergo training as necessary
  • Current issues in healthcare
  • Capable of lateral thinking
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own and others'
  • Understanding of skills and knowledge required to lead and develop team members

  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post.
