Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced oncology and/or haematology nurse to join our team on J80 in a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse role. The SACT Day Case Unit (J80), at Leeds Teaching Hospitals is a regional center delivering anti-cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy to our haematology and oncology patients. The successful candidate will have a broad range of experience and will demonstrate an ability to lead and manage this highly patient focussed service and will have insight into the needs of this group of patients. You should have significant post registration experience in an oncology/haematology setting or equivalent. Experience of and an ability to give intra-venous chemotherapy would be a considerable advantage. A non-medical prescribing qualification/working towards, would also be a strong advantage.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills to have management responsibility for the Pre-Assessment, PICC Insertion and SACT scheduling team on J80. You will lead these teams and act as a clinical role model. You will work alongside and support the other Senior Sister on J80 in the delivery of SACT, the education of nurses and patients and other operational duties.
J80 has three areas of patient activity:
The SACT Pre-assessment unit is a nurse-led service that reviews and assesses patients who are receiving a course/courses of systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT). The nurses in this unit also authorise on-going SACT treatment and prescribe supportive medications if required.
The Nurse-Led PICC insertion service places approximately 25 PICC lines per week for Oncology and Haematology patients.
The SACT day case unit is a nurse-led, out-patient service, delivering SACT treatments to 75-85 patients a day.
J80 is open 7.30am - 7.30pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am - 6.30pm Saturday and 7.30am 4pm Sunday.
