This
is a fixed term contract role with an initial contract end date of 31 March
2025 (extension anticipated).
The
NIHR has been growing its inclusion work over the last 3 years. We now have an ambitious, far reaching
Research Inclusion strategy and action plan, as well as a dedicated team and
function. We have Research Inclusion
colleagues both centrally (who provide a corporate strategic function) and
locally (in the different business areas of NIHR) to ensure inclusion is
embedded, cohesively across everything we do.
This
role will join our corporate Research Inclusion function. The role will have day to day
responsibility for developing, planning, managing and evaluating schemes,
workstreams and programmes that form part of the NIHR Research Inclusion
portfolio. The postholder will have
the opportunity to help NIHR on its journey to reduce health inequalities and
improve the health of the nation.
The
NIHR Academy Executive (where this role sits) have adopted a hybrid working
model whereby staff are able to split their working time between working in
the office and at home. The Research Inclusion Team currently has one
scheduled office day per week; this is in our central Leeds Office.
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will provide equality and inclusion expertise across all of
NIHRs activities. They will be the head, heart, and hands of the NIHRs
Research Inclusion programme - liaising daily with a variety of stakeholders
to bring about change and enhance NIHRs culture and performance as an
inclusive funder of research.
The
role will work alongside the other NIHR Research Inclusion Managers to ensure
implementation and oversight of the various projects and programmes that form
part of our strategic business plan.
It will identify opportunities to embed inclusion across everything we
do at NIHR and will set and monitor performance metrics, to ensure our work
is having a positive impact.
The
role requires significant experience of managing and delivering equality,
diversity and inclusion projects.

Handle
complex queries and complaints about the NIHR RI processes and strategy
implementation;
Provide
expertise and support to NIHR centres on Pan-NIHR activities;
Work
with the NIHR RI Senior Management Team to plan and implement new RI
interventions
Working
with the NIHR Deputy Head of RI to monitor workload and co-ordination of
administrative functions across the portfolio
The
post holder will be required to manage change in response to external events
and new policies; this may require the reformulation and adjustment of plans
and strategies to ensure that the programmes in the post holders portfolio
remain fit for purpose
Provide
secretariat for RI programme board and its relevant working
Support
colleagues around NIHR with the development of Equality Impact Assessments
(EIAs) in order to assess the effects of policies, procedures and practices
on diverse members of the School. Support includes analysis of EDI
dashboards.
Writing
reports and working papers as required; and
Communication
Publicise
the NIHR RI activities through attendance and presentations at external
meetings, seminars and conferences;
Deal
with a range of people nationally at all levels of seniority both internal
and external to the NIHR Academy in line with DHSC policies;
Organisation
of workshops and stakeholder meetings as required;
Generate
and maintain strong nationally- based networks and positive working
relationships across NIHR
Contributing
to briefings requested from by Centres Executive Board (CEB) and DHSC
Liaise
with members of the RI Senior Management Team and other managers across the
NIHR in order to meet responsibilities and undertake duties effectively.
