This Trust is one of the largest in the UK providing high quality acute hospital services for the population of Leeds and the surrounding area and acts as a regional centre for a number of specialist services such as oncology, cardiac and neurosurgery, treating approximately one million people per year.

Ward C6 in Chapel Allerton Hospital, is a dedicated Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, with 23 inpatient beds. Patients are transferred from the Acute Stroke unit in Leeds General Infirmary for ongoing rehabilitation. Patients are cared for by two dedicated Rehabilitation Consultants, as well as a team of resident doctors.

The post involves working on the rehabilitation ward, as part of the multidisciplinary team. There are no on-call commitments to this post.

This post provides an opportunity to gain experience in both stroke and rehabilitation medicine, as well as aspects of general, and elderly medicine. There are also opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in teaching and training, as well as clinical governance and clinical improvement work. The doctor will also be invited to join the education programme within the stroke medicine department.  

Applicants should have completed a minimum of Foundation year 2 and be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice in the UK. 12 months experience in the NHS is also essential as we are unable to support any supernumerary working period. Applicants should have prior experience of working with a stroke or neurology department. Applicants need to have Valid Advanced Life Support qualifications which are in date and not expired.
