Job summary

Click on the link if you think you would love this opportunity to take on the new role of the Teenage Cancer Trust Teenage and Young Adults (TYA) Clinical Nurse Specialist at ICHT. You will work collaboratively with the TYA teams at UCLH as the primary TYA treatment centre to ensure TYA patients diagnosed and treated at ICHT get appropriate information, support, and treatment.

You will work alongside the TYA clinician and deputy clinician to develop the TYA service and awareness of the TYA patient's needs. While working collaboratively with the site-specific teams and Clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) to directly support cancer patients aged 16-24.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and motivated experienced nurse to lead this service. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, senior cancer experience as either a site-specific cancer CNS or within a TYA unit. You will have an excellent understanding of patient experience and support for cancer patients, with insight into the TYA specific needs.

In return, we will offer you the opportunity to develop your expertise and the service at ICHT while being supported by the wider TYA network including the primary treatment centre based at UCLH. Should you require additional TYA training this will be provided with the support of the TYA Nurse Consultant based at UCLH.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist nursing advice, care and support to 16-24 year old cancer patients to facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers, both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the site specific multi-disciplinary teams and in line with local and national guidelines.
  • At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the center of care delivery. Where appropriate acting as a 'key worker', in collaboration with the site specific key Worker.
  • Work to improve the patient experience and outcomes throughout the patient journey.
  • Deputise for their line manager in designated tasks relevant to the development of role/clinical specialty.
  • Act as professional role model, providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
  • To work with senior members of the team and contribute to the development of the clinical nurse specialist role in accordance with local and national policy and ensure the needs of patients and their families are central to service improvement initiatives.
