An opportunity exists for a General Rotational Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our Therapy Service team at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Hospital. The Therapy Services Department is committed to providing an excellent environment for professional growth and offers regular training, supervision and support for career progression. Our overall aim is to provide the highest standards of care to patients through the provision of evidence informed practice.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide high quality clinical care to patients, in line with the Trust values and in accordance with professional regulations.
They will work as an autonomous practitioner in providing physiotherapy assessment, treatment and management to own designated caseload of patients and to maintain up to date physiotherapy records.
They will use evidence based principles/current best practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
The post holder will experience through rotations in Respiratory, Medical rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal out patients, Hand therapy, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Paediatrics, Emergency Department, Pelvic Health and at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
The post holder is expected to consolidate and develop knowledge and skills through participation in CPD
The post holder is expected to actively participate in seven day working and the out of hours oncall service.

CLINICAL
- To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of your work, including the management of patients in your care.
- To be able to carry and prioritise your own designated clinical caseload, working as an autonomous practitioner, with regular supervision from your supervisor.
- To determine the patients understanding of the physiotherapy intervention in order to gain valid, informed consent and to be able to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
- To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools when communicating with patients/carers to maximise the patients rehabilitation potential. This will include communication with people with complex communication difficulties such as dysphasia, deafness, and dementia, mental health problems or speak English as a second language or who have difficulty accepting their diagnosis.
- To provide comprehensive problem orientated medical records of assessment and treatment according to departmental, professional and legal standards to aid the clinical reasoning process in the assessment and treatment of all patients.
- To undertake competent physiotherapy assessments in line with department and professional standards, to form diagnoses, establish impairments and limitations and to plan and implement individual physiotherapy programs for all patients.
- To use appropriate and effective assessment and treatment techniques including subjective and observational analysis, manual therapy techniques and therapeutic handling skills.
- To use clinical reasoning, understanding of the medical diagnosis, previous experience and knowledge of treatment options to plan and implement individual physiotherapy programs, formulate accurate prognoses and develop appropriate discharge plans.
- To make effective use of treatment options such as advice, gait re-education, exercise prescription, manual techniques, electrotherapy and provision of appropriate therapeutic aids and equipment.
- To monitor and evaluate treatment to measure progress and to ensure effectiveness of the intervention. To be able to identify problems and modify treatments in routine cases but with support of senior in more complex cases.
- To attend multi-disciplinary team meetings such as case conferences, ward rounds and discharge planning meetings to communicate information about individual patient progress and to assist MDT decision making, eg regarding discharge plans.
- To be responsible for the safe and appropriate provision of physiotherapy aids and equipment given to patients in line with department standards and to provide advice and education on their safe use.
- To promote and maintain a safe therapeutic environment for patients, their families and staff, according to national and local Infection Control guidelines, Health & Safety legislation, safeguarding legislation and procedures and Trust policies and objectives
- To understand the Trust clinical governance framework, and participate in the promoting and safeguarding of high standards of care, through effective risk management & governance, and adherence to the Trust values.
- To be an active member of the respiratory weekend and on-call rota thus undertaking the assessment and treatment of acutely ill respiratory patients who may have complex medical problems. To be able to provide advice and information regarding the patients condition to other members of the MDT involved in their care. To work without supervision and support when on call.
