Job summary

The Emergency Department at Chelsea andWestminster Hospital in an exciting and expanding department in one of the countries busiest non-elective trusts.We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking team player to help build on the current excellent reputation and trust ethos.

We have an exciting opportunity as an Ultrasound Senior Clinical Fellow for a candidate who wishes to obtain training and broaden their experience in Ultrasound. Successful candidates with be working on a full rota with the regional higher specialty trainees, clinical fellows with special interest in research, global emergency medicine and simulation on the Chelsea and Westminster site.

We are a dynamic team of 12 consultants, 10 of whom are level 1 trained, and four of whom are at least PgCert in medical ultrasound. We hold 4 state of the art ultrasound machines and incorporate ultrasound skills into clinical work and both SHO and middle grade teaching. This post is aimed at candidates who are keen to progress their ultrasound skills beyond level 1 ultrasound, integrate their ultrasound skills into everyday shop floor work and participate in ultrasound focussed research under a mentor. This is supplemented by a PgCert in medical ultrasound which is funded along with ultrasound specific days. These involve 1:1 scan reviews by a Consultant with special interest in ultrasound and self-directed study.

Main duties of the job

We are keen for our ultrasound fellow to integrate in both Junior and senior teaching programmes. We run ultrasound workshops integrating simulation manikins where appropriate. We would devise a PDP early in the placement and set specific goals during the post. Previous postholders have been awarded a job split of up to 70:30 Emergency Medicine: ultrasound. The split will be agreed with the educational supervisor depending on projects or postgraduate courses that the postholder wishes to undertake, and regularly reviewed against progress demonstrated towards their PDP.
