Job summary
This innovative post combines acute medicine (6PA) along with (4PA) dedicated sessions for NHS-based research on the NIHR Liverpool Clinical Research Facility (CRF). This is in the broad area of Clinical Pharmacology, with the specific remit of working within the CRF to increase capacity within the Trust to conduct early phase trials (Phase I and II) trials in humans. The CRF is the first NHS unit in England and Wales to obtain MHRA Phase I accreditation in May 2013 and has been continuously accredited since then. Early phase study activity has increased markedly since 2011 with currently 12-15 active Phase 1 studies. The CRF received £5.3 million in funding from the NIHR from September 2022 for 5 years to support expansion across additional sites, including dedicated experimental medicines beds at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The position is a consultant post in acute medicine and clinical pharmacology & therapeutics. The post holder will be located in the AMU department which sits in the division of medicine within the sub-division of acute and emergency care. The appointee will be accountable to the clinical director for AMU (Dr Patricia Cunningham). Accountability for the NHS research component will be through Dr Richard FitzGerald (Director, CRF) and to Professor T Jones (Director for R&I).
