Fellowship in Ophthalmic Anaesthesia and Day Case surgery, Moorfields Eye Hospital
Applications are welcomed for the post of senior clinical fellow in ophthalmic anaesthesia.
The post is full-time for 6 months in the first instance, with start date to be decided mutually.
This is an opportunity to gain experience in day case surgery and TIVA, whilst covering all aspects of ophthalmic anaesthesia. These include advanced sedation, paediatric day case surgery and local anaesthetic techniques.A substantial amount of paediatric work takes place at Moorfields & consequently there will be many occasions for managing the care ofchildren as young as 4 weeks. Time for non-clinical work such as research and quality improvement, can be factored in.
The anaesthetic service has 18 Anaesthetists and up to 6 junior staff.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to undertake approximately eight sessions per week; the number to be allocated to research or clinical commitments is to be by mutual agreement - usually at least one day a week is put aside for non-clinical activity. Although the clinical sessions will be fixed in time, their content will be flexible to reflect the needs of the department. It is anticipated that the post-holder will join the ST on-call rota.

We are a supportive and friendly department of 18 consultants including College examiners, medical examiners, members of national committees and guidelines groups.
We are committed and to ensuring that our Fellows get their most out of their post and will endeavour to welcome you into the team.
- 6 month rotation at Moorfields Eye Hospital, which is a specialist NHS ophthalmic hospital, providing care for all ophthalmic subspecialties
- We operate on a day case model for surgery, doing in excess of 35,000 patients a year. Anaesthesia is provided for all forms of ophthalmic surgery resulting in a case mix which is unique in the United Kingdom.
- A substantial amount of paediatric work takes place at Moorfields & consequently there will be many occasions for managing the care of children as young as 4 weeks.
- You will be allocated to a variety of lists with emphasis on paediatric lists, where TIVA is the anaesthetic of choice
- 1 day per week can be allocated to non-clinical activities, which will assist with completion of Generic Professional Capabilities
- You will be part of the on-call rota, approx. 1 in 4 or 5, with no overnight duties. Weekend on call shifts are 08:30 18:00.
- You will carry theresuscitations bleep as per rota
