Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the South of Tyne Children and Young Peoples Service, based at Monkwearmouth Hospital in Sunderland.

CYPS is fully integrated team who provide specialist mental health assessment and intervention for children and young people with complex and enduring mental health problems, and deliver a wide range of evidence based interventions through clearly defined care pathways.

We have developed a comprehensive supervision structure for staff including individual supervision and peer support, through our care pathways. We offer many interventions to young people and their families, and offer training through our internal training programme.

The multi-disciplinary team comprises of a highly skilled and experienced workforce.

We are now recruiting into a band 6 Community Practitioner to work within our Learning Disability Pathway.

Main duties of the job

The Learning Disability Pathway offers an initial assessment to children and young people who have a diagnosed learning disability, and aim to support those who present with complex mental health difficulties and challenging behaviours. We offer a range of interventions including;

  • Confident parenting group, whichfocuses on understanding behaviour and parental wellbeing
  • Brief behaviour assessment -Behaviour Support plan
  • IPBS - further assessment/support PBS implementation
  • Special friends group or individual anxiety work
  • Emotional regulation
  • Modified CBT - depression/anxiety
  • Psychiatric assessment
  • Medication
  • Access other psychological therapies/interventions as required across service.

We are keen to recruit a clinician with experience in working with children and young people, who can work collaboratively with partner agencies and who can work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The team operates across the hours of 8.00 to 8.00 Monday to Friday, and Saturdays 9-5.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First Level Registered Nurse RNMH, RMN, RNLD or equivalent first level qualification e.g. Social Worker, OT, Clinical Psychologist, other.
  • Mentor Training.
  • Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post.

Organisational Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team

Experience

  • Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of Evidence Based clinical approaches as identified
  • 12 - 24 months minimum experience post registration.
