Qualified Surgical Care Practitioner (Robotic Surgery)

Job summary

We have an opportunity for a Qualified SCP position working within our Theatre department, with a specialist interest in hepatobiliary and colorectal surgery. You will be skilled in robotic surgery as well as first and second assisting, whilst also participating in aspects of pre, peri and post-operative care of the patient under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons.

We are a progressive department and therefore the successful candidate must possess the right skills to drive forward service objectives for development and innovation whilst maintaining the day to day operation of the service. You will be expected to work at an advanced practitioner level and promote clinical excellence throughout the team and the organisation, whilst working closely with the other band 7 theatre coordinators, matrons, consultant colleagues and key stake holders.

You will be responsible for the professional development of the operating theatre teams you operationally and professionally manage, therefore it is essential that you possess excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills; have the drive and ambition to develop people.The successful candidate must have an MSc qualification in Surgical Care Practice (or Band 7 appointment will be considered for applicants with willingness to complete if successful in the absence of any appointable Band 8a qualified candidates).

Main duties of the job

o To provide expert assistance and support in robotic surgery to the ConsultantSurgeons, SPRs, theatre staff and patients involved in robotic surgery

o To provide a nurse specialist / Surgical First Assistant qualified nurse/ SurgicalFirst Assistant (SFA) role. The primary purpose of this role is to provide guidanceand support based on advanced level knowledge to health professionalsconcerning a specific disease/condition.

o Demonstrates significant advanced knowledge and skills within speciality andsphere of practice.

o Supports training within the Robotic surgery theatre team

o Have corporate identity as an expert within the specialist area of robotic surgery

o Lead and provide training and education across the organisation in relevant areaof practice.
