An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated nurse to join our Breast Services team as aBreast Reconstruction Specialist Nurse.
This is a senior leadership role for an autonomous, advanced practitioner who will provide expert care and support for patients undergoing breast reconstruction following breast cancer surgery. You will work closely with the breast and plastic surgery teams to deliver a seamless, patient-centred service throughout the reconstructive pathway -- from diagnosis and surgical planning to long-term recovery and survivorship.
The post holder will act as the clinical lead for breast reconstruction nursing, driving forward high standards of care, service development, and patient experience in line with national best practice.
About You:
We are looking for an experienced senior nurse with substantial knowledge and clinical expertise in breast surgery, plastic/reconstructive surgery, or oncology. You will have advanced assessment and communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously while contributing to a dynamic MDT.
You should be able to demonstrate leadership, innovation, and a commitment to developing services in line with evolving patient needs.
Main duties of the job
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide specialist advice, education, and support to patients considering or undergoing breast reconstruction.
- Lead nurse-led clinics for pre- and post-operative assessment, education, and follow-up care.
- Offer holistic assessment and emotional support to patients and their families.
- Work collaboratively with breast and plastic surgeons, oncologists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate complex care.
- Lead on the development and implementation of breast reconstruction pathways and patient information resources.
- Act as a resource and educator for nursing and medical staff within the breast service and beyond.
- Contribute to audit, research, and service improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes and experience.
