Job summary
The Network and Telecoms Support Engineer role is to provide reliable and efficient support for the Trust's network and telecoms infrastructure, maintaining all operational activities of the technical environment and the operational services it provides to its customers.
Work closely with other members within the team and department, troubleshooting issues, undertaking regular infrastructure audits/housekeeping, and assisting with project delivery.
This is a customer facing role, by telephone, email, face-to-face and will require regular travel across all Trust sites. You will also need to liaise with internal departments and external companies providing a high-quality customer & professional service at all times.
Network and Telecoms Support Engineers will be expected to cover core support hours on a shift/rota basis and participate in planned maintenance activities outside of core office hours as required by the business.
Main duties of the job
- Responsible for maintaining and supporting network and telecoms infrastructure and systems across all Trust sites to ensure the IT operational services are available to the Trust's users, including:
- Networks (Wired and Wireless)
- External Connectivity (WAN's, etc)
- Firewalls
- Web Proxies
- Remote Access Solutions
- Telecoms including Mitel IP telephony
- All other network and telecoms systems/equipment
- Responsible for completing all assigned tickets within the Service Desk system (diagnosing and resolving faults) in line with service level agreements and escalating any likely breaches.
- Completing regular infrastructure audits & housekeeping
- Assisting with system updates and upgrades with minimal impact on the production environment when required.
- Assisting with project delivery.
- Responsible for ensuring documentation is kept up to date.

- Educated to A level or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study or employment.
- Evidence of continuing professional development pertaining to the post.
Desirable
- Vendor certification relating to network and/or telecoms.
- ITIL Practitioner Qualification.
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
- Experience focussing on IT infrastructure gained within an enterprise environment.
- Evidence of supporting IT solutions across multiple disciplines.
- Knowledge of IT "best practice" standards, procedures, policies and protocols.
- Knowledge and expertise of at least one of these key areas: LAN, Wireless, Firewalls, Telephony
