Job summary
This full-time post is for a period of 6 months from 6th September 2023 until 5th March 2024, based at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire hospital or at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. The post is a middle grade paediatric (ST3 level and above) but can be adapted to suit a trainee who has completed training and wishes to develop his/her CV towards consultant application.
The post holder will work with other colleagues to provide a comprehensive paediatric service including neonatal services (level 2). There will be the opportunity to lead ward rounds and run general paediatric clinics. He/she will also be encouraged to be involved in and experience other aspects of the service including management and education and will be supported to attend senior management and governance meetings. Applications for part-time working would be considered. There is a resident on-call commitment.
The post holder will be allocated a Paediatric Consultant at the start of the post who will provide educational supervision and mentoring.
Main duties of the job
It is expected that the post holder will provide support and contribute to the provision of general paediatric and neonatal care in Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital or Royal Hampshire County Hospital. The opportunities and experiences will be tailored to the seniority and training needs of the post holder. He/she will be encouraged and supervised to lead ward rounds and will have regular supervised outpatient clinics. There will also be the opportunity to develop roles in management, education and clinical governance.
There is a significant educational component to the post and the post holder will be expected to undergo appraisal and fulfil educational objectives as jointly determined with allocated educational supervisors.
The post-holder will participate in a full shift working pattern based on a seven-week cycle, including resident nights. A consultant will be available at all times for support and advice.
Each middle grade post is 'New Deal' compliant with an average working week of 48 hours.
Annual and study leave is co-ordinator by the leave co-ordinator.
