Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

Applications are invited for the post of full time Locum Consultant inRespiratory Medicine. We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and committed colleague to join our rapidly evolving department.

The successful applicant to this post will work alongside 10 existing consultant colleagues to provide core respiratory and general (internal) medicine services and to further develop our sub-specialty services.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at University Hospital Coventry. The appointee will be responsible for around 10-15 beds on the Respiratory Unit. Outpatient clinics are structured to provide a new: follow- up ratio of approximately 1:1.1 depending on sub-speciality condition. Along with the other Consultants in the Respiratory Unit, the appointee is expected to provide an in-patient and out-patient respiratory medicine and bronchoscopy service. At present the Department is going through a process of examining how best to configure the Respiratory service as part of Trust-wide changes in the delivery of nonelective care; this may lead to some changes in work patterns for all consultants within the department, including the provision of ambulatory services and community clinics and reconfiguration of respiratory wards. Junior support on the respiratory wards at University Hospital is currently area based, with juniors divided into teams, each covering specific ward areas to improve continuity of care and breadth of experience. It is planned to develop an enhanced care unit for the provision of non-invasive ventilation and the post holder will be expected to have the necessary skills to provide support forthis unit.
