Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated nurse to become an active member of the Surgical Breast Cancer Team. You will participate in the provision of high quality care to patients diagnosed with breast cancer and their families throughout their surgical pathway. As a Clinical Nurse specialist you will participate in the development of the service and actively participate with all aspects of the Multidisciplinary team.

The main base is the Laurel Unit at Rugby St Cross, however there is cross site working at UHCW NHS TRUST. Own transport is required.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring a high standard of care for all patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer, providing a high standard of psycho social support for the patient and their family / carers from diagnosis of breast cancer, until referral for oncology treatment. You will act as an effective key worker and advocate for your patients, providing advice, support and signposting when necessary.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Ensure a high standard of care for all patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer, providing a high standard of psychosocial support for the patient and their family/carers from diagnosis of breast cancer, until referral for oncology treatment
  2. The post holder will organise own workload, delivering a high standard of nursing care based upon a sound evidence base, which reflects the core components of the Clinical Nurse Specialist Rol
  3. Contribute to MDT discussions, care planning and decision making to provide seamless co-ordination and patient care across the patient pathway
  4. Act as patient advocate where relevant, facilitating informed discussions concerning treatment options and ensuring informed consent
  5. Use advanced clinical assessment skills in nurse led clinics to autonomously manage patients with a breast cancer diagnosis, and following surgery to ensure that optimum physical and psychological care needs are met
  6. Lead in the development of nurse led clinics working autonomously and in parallel with the Consultant Breast Surgeons
  7. Deliver evidence based individualised patient care according to patients changing health care needs, through Holistic needs assessment (EHNA). Providing specialist advice to ensure effective continuity of care. Ensuring that the patients holistic needs are taken into consideration in the decision-making process
  8. As part of the Surgical Breast Care Nursing Team constantly re-evaluate and develop the nursing service to maintain an innovative and quality, patient focused service
  9. Utilise highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations
  10. Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and represent the MDT at local/regional business meetings
  11. Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes
  12. Responsible for training provision of identified staff groups within defined areas.
