Job summary
To provide specialist IT Systems infrastructure engineering services for the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPNT) and D&I supported organisation. Provides expert guidance and technical leadership to both junior and senior engineers. Lead on investigating a range of specialist and complex D&I issues, following the relevant technical strategies, policies, standards, and practices. Primarily remote working with some on site duties as and when required. The role is part of the on-call Systems rota.

- To introduce, adapt, test, improve, repair and maintain the computer server system infrastructure equipment ensuring that equipment operating system and software/firmware are at the correct revision level, completing Change Management Requests where necessary. Assisting system suppliers with operating system, database, and application upgrades.
- To configure both the hardware and software of expensive computer server system infrastructure equipment, ensuring appropriate access control and management of the secure server systems.
- To ensure the maximum availability of the computer server system infrastructure including Disaster Recovery planning and implementation involving out of hours work where necessary.
- To input and manipulate data to the computer server system infrastructure equipment and the IT databases.
- To input and manipulate data to, and create reports from, various server system analysis tools including the production of system downtime reports.
- To provide specialist advice, implement, enforce, monitor, report incidents and assist the investigation into breaches of the IT security policies, ensuring safe and appropriate use of computer server system resources.
- To develop new, propose changes to, and redesign the teams working practices, procedures and IT databases ensuring a quality first approach.
- Implements D&I policies for own area, proposes changes to D&I user working practices and procedures e.g. when planning for new projects, changes in legislation, new reporting processes, new training programmes impacting across the organisation(s).

- To Lead on and have oversight of multiple concurrent workstreams, assessing risk and impact as well as resources required.
- Contribute to reports and offer insights to support strategy and management of the server environment and the resources contained within.
- To input into Disaster Recovery planning and implementation, involving out of hours work where necessary, and act as the Systems Operations technical lead during system outages.

- This post is part of the IT Systems Operations On-Call Rota which provides critical computer system infrastructure support out of business hours.
- The post holder is expected to work beyond normal worked hours to resolve any critical failures of the Plymouth Health Communities telephone and computer infrastructure.
- Upgrades often require working outside of normal working hours.
- A hybrid approach to working is currently being employed in D&I, primarily homeworking for the Systems Infrastructure Team.
