Staff Nurse - Ward 5 General Surgery - Band 5

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our nursing team on ward 5. This is an excellent opportunity to gain a wide variety of knowledge and experience within a unit that includes both emergency and elective surgery.

Ward 5/STU is a general surgical unit which encompasses 3 different areas. 1 area has 13 inpatient surgical beds, there are a further 15 day case beds and also a surgical treatment unit. The unit looks after patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical specialties including major bowel surgery, breast and gynaecology procedures, ophthalmology, Urology and ENT.

We can offer a range of working opportunities including full and part time hours covering a variety of shift patterns over a 7 day rota including early shifts, late shifts, long days and some rotation onto nights. Our nursing teams are focused on the 6 C's and we aim to provide a high quality service in a safe environment where the needs of each patient are met in a professional and holistic manner.

We offer flexible working patterns on a roster basis which includes a well balanced combination of days, nights and weekends in order to meet the needs of our patients and provide a fair and equal working environment for the whole team.

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

The role of a Staff Nurse is to support in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of high quality nursing care. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Staff Nurse will ensure patients receive the highest level of care, delivered using a holistic, patient-focused approach, while ensuring high standards of documentation are maintained.

The successful applicant will possess excellent communication skills, team working skills and some knowledge of surgical procedures to join our busy unit. We will support your development in the post through personal development planning, excellent training opportunities and will support you to broaden your experience, skills and knowledge in the rotation into the orthopaedic ward areas.
