Job summary

University Hospitals of North Midlands is currently unable to provide sponsorship this role. Interviews

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or Level 2 Functional Skills for Maths and English.

If you hold overseas GCSE equivalent qualifications, you will need to bring an ECCTIS comparability statement for you GCSE equivalent qualifications along with your original certificate

  • A Full Care CertificateORNVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (we can only accept NVQ's from a regulated awarding body).

If you do not bring the above qualifications to your interview, then the interview will not proceed.

A key aspect of the role is flexibility, as staff are required to work variable shifts over seven days a week within agreed limits.

Main duties of the job

The role of a Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker encompasses a range of clinical skills essential for patient care. These skills are formally approved by UHNM and require the completion of a robust competency package supported by specialized training provided by the Care Coach Team and other UHNM educators.

Key clinical skills
  • Physiological measurements:Taking and recording vital signs, including clinical observations,blood pressure.
  • Venepuncture and cannula care:Performing venepuncture and removing peripheral cannulas safely.
  • Sample collection and testing: Taking various samples (e.g., blood for glucose monitoring, urine for analysis, faecal samples, swabs for MRSA testing).
  • ECG:Carrying out 12-lead Electrocardiograms.
  • Wound care:Observing wounds and performing simple wound dressings.
  • Patient observation and support:Recognizing signs of patient agitation or distress and responding appropriately (e.g., clinical holding or restraint if necessary).
  • Supporting new staff:Acting as a buddy or Care Certificate Supervisor to train and assist new colleagues.

It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year and with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment.

Communicate and report any changes or information relating to the patient to the Registered Nurse.

Communicate appropriately with patients and visitors to the Ward or Department.

Under direct or non-direct supervision of a Registered Nurse as deemed appropriate and will assist with all aspects of essential patient care.

The post holder will be required to undertake as appropriate any training packages relevant to the healthcare setting and do on-going training as determined by the Trust and/or by their line manager.

Act as a chaperone, supporting patients undergoing examinations or procedures.

Engages with individual training programs and local protocols, checks and cleans equipment/s.

Under the direction and supervision of the sister / Charge nurse order stocks and supplies and ensure they are stored appropriately.

Completion of relevant patient documentation under direct or non-direct supervision of a Registered Nurse as deemed appropriate.

Occasionally participates in audits, surveys, research and development activities.

Will have a delegated workload within the remit of their capabilities.

Turns, manoeuvres patients for toileting, and bathing using appropriate aids.

Concentrates on personal care duties and can follow a routine.

Care of terminally ill patients and supports in the event of a patients death.
