Spinal Deformity Support Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12-month secondment within the spinal deformity service. There will be the opportunity to work with adults and children and young people with spinal deformity.

Working alongside senior clinicians, a wider multidisciplinary team and supervised by the clinical nurse specialist you will be able to develop health assessment skills, specialist knowledge and skills relating to spinal deformity and experience the facilitation of nurse led services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the clinical nurse specialist to deliver an expert nursing service within spinal deformity. The post holder will be responsible for managing their own caseload of patients with support from the clinical nurse specialist. The post holder will work with adults, children and young people within their daily practice, ensuring patients and their families / carers receive relevant information and education about their condition enabling them to make informed choice about their care and treatment options.

The post holder will be required to work within a clinical environment to facilitate and support nurse led clinics. The post holder will be required to use health assessment skills to pre-assess children to ensure pre-optimisation prior to surgical intervention. There will also be an expectation to support the ward round on inpatient areas in both adults and children and young person settings.

There will be a requirement to order / follow up any tests / diagnostics required within their scope of practice and work closely with the administrative and Consultant teams to prioritise patient care. The support nurse will be involved with presenting cases at multi-disciplinary meetings, providing specialist education and training to both staff and families / carers and networking with community services to support discharge.
