Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the management and delivery of training & education and managing the nursing components positive working relationships for the South West London and Surrey Trauma network (SWL&STN).

The SWL&STN nurse educator will develop and deliver a high profile education & training programme to transform the delivery of trauma care across the region with all key stakeholders. This will include creating training programmes and supporting trauma units and the MTC in delivery of educational programmes that meet level 1 and level 2 educational standards.

This will involve the postholder working equally across the MTC and trauma units within the SWL&STN.

Main duties of the job

  • To act as a role model and demonstrate expertise in delivering evidence based practice.
  • The post holder will deliver, support and maintain educational programmes to achieve adherence with educational standards across the SWL&S network and MTC.
  • Develop positive working relationships with other members of the multidisciplinary teams to ensure the SWL&STN is at the forefront of best professional practice and service delivery, to enable the SWTN to deliver on targets and in line with the strategic agenda
  • Provide effective clinical leadership and management.
  • Use a wide range of interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with multifaceted and often highly sensitive change issues related to performance management and service reconfiguration
  • Work alongside staff clinically within the clinical areas to provide specialist Major Trauma education, training and support.
  • Maintain training records of educational targets and compliances across the emergency care nursing workforce and inpatient trauma care workforce.

St George's Hospital is one of four hospitals in London to achieve the high standards to be designated a Major Trauma Centre in 2010. The South West London and Surrey Trauma Network includes St George's Hospital (the Major Trauma Centre), 7 acute hospitals (Trauma Units) (3 in London and 4 in Surrey), 7 PCTs, two ambulance services and several air ambulance services covering a population of more than 2.6 million. The Trauma Units within London are Kingston, Croydon University Hospital and Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and in Surrey, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Frimley Park, East Surrey Hospital and St Peter's Hospitals.

  • Work collaboratively with the various universities and educational/training facilities. Work will include trauma course coordination, administration and delivery including feedback/evaluation.
  • Provide specialist professional advice and support to nurses across the SWL&STN and other agencies involved with Major Trauma as a nurse and trainer
  • Foster, develop and contribute to the sharing of good and evidenced-based practice, nursing research and its application across the network, identifying opportunities that will support the Network Quality Improvement agenda.
  • To provide educational resources and literature for staff and promote the use of research findings in the clinical area.
  • Foster a creative learning culture, encouraging staff to participate in lifelong learning initiatives, valuing daily practice as a reflective learning opportunity where learning can be applied directly to practice.
