Job summary
These new substantive posts for Specialty Doctors in Anaesthetics have been created to support the expansion of the Anaesthetic Service at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, specifically the opening of two new operating theatres within the Lewisham Surgical Centre (South-East London Surgical Centre). The Hub, developed with Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts, will deliver high-volume, low-complexity (HVLC) elective surgery to reduce waiting times across South-East London. Successful candidates will join an ACSA-accredited, SAS-inclusive department committed to education, wellbeing, and service excellence. These are 10 PA full-time posts with no hot activities or on-call duties.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide anaesthetic care for elective and day-case surgery within the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and Lewisham Surgical Centre
- Deliver anaesthesia for ENT, orthopaedics, general, colorectal, urology and obstetrics & gynaecology cases.
- Participate in pre-operative assessment and peri-operative optimisation.
- Support Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to maintain high standards of patient care.
Education, Training and Audit:
- Teach and supervise trainees and allied professionals.
- Participate in weekly academic and governance meetings.
- Engage in audit, research and QI, presenting findings locally or nationally.
Governance and Service Development:
- Participate in clinical governance, policy review, and service evaluation.
- Contribute to ACSA, GIRFT, and peri-operative medicine development.
- Support service development of the Lewisham Surgical Centre.

- MBBS or equivalent Initial Assessment of Competence in Anaesthesia Initial Assessment of Competence in Obstetric Anaesthesia
Clinical Experience

- Minimum 4 years (FTE) postgraduate training in the UK (or equivalent training) of which 2 years training must be Anaesthetics
Clinical Audit
