Job summary

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust has a strong haematology service under the umbrella of the being one of the largest health care providers in London. This is a post for a substantive consultant haematologist with a role:

a) to support the Myeloproliferative disorder service

b) to support the Sickle cell and General haematology inpatient service

c) to support the out of hours non-malignant haematology service

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced individual committed to excellence in service delivery to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first-class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a member of the haematology team, this is a post to provide support within the Myeloproliferative OPA service which has seen significantly increased activity in the last few years. The post holder will participate in outpatient clinics managing the care of patients with myeloproliferative diagnoses and will be expected to take part the active clinical trials portfolio that is run within the team. Experience in MPN clinical research and an understanding of the evolving therapy landscape will be essential for this role. The post holder will need to be GCP trained and will be added to the delegation logs for the ongoing active clinical trial portfolio.

The role will also take part in the Non-Malignant haematology out of hours rota, where they will manage the care of individuals with general haematology diagnoses, consultative referrals, acute admissions and inpatient review of patients with haemoglobinopathy diagnoses. There is a rotational ward attending cover for patients with classical haematology diagnoses the majority of whom will have haemoglobinopathy diagnoses and complications.

The post holder will actively participate in trainee teaching and clinical supervision as expected in a large Tertiary teaching Hospital, they will be responsible for a weekly morphology teaching session directed at trainees.
