Job summary
We are looking for Newly Qualified Paramedics who will be ready to join our courses in January 2024 from our Education Centres in Bicester or Newbury.
*This vacancy is for candidates who currently have the Right to Work in the UK (do not require a visa) and have studied for their Paramedic qualification in the UK*
We are looking for individuals who have completed their Paramedic degree and hold UK HCPC registration who want to work for our Trust, responding to accident, emergency and urgent care requirements of our diverse population. You will be based specifically from one of the following stations: Milton Keynes, Stoke Mandeville, Wexham, High Wycombe, Adderbury, Kidlington, Oxford, Didcot, Newbury, Reading, Bracknell, Alton, Basingstoke, Whitchurch, North Harbour and Petersfield.
For candidates transferring from other ambulance trusts their existing progress against the NQP consolidation of learning programme will be recognised.
Main duties of the job
All we need you to have is:
- A full valid UK driving licence (including Category B and Category C1 with no more than 3 points. (minimum of a Provisional C1 on your licence in order for your application to be shortlisted).
- A Paramedic Science degree recognised by the HCPC
- Able to commit to a 7 week (full-time) training programme (paid) and on-going shift work

The finer details:
- The 7 week training programme is paid but is not residential so you will need to be able to get to the venue and back on your own
- If your application demonstrates that you are what we are looking for, then you will be invited to attend our Pre-Employment Lifting and Driving assessments (PELDA) which take place from one of our Education Centres as well as an online interview before an offer can be made
- All successful candidates who are offered a job with us will have to undertake clearance from the DBS (Disclosure and Baring Service) and our Occupational Health department
- You will be asked to complete a location preference form at conditional offer stage. We will take into account your preferences on where you wish to work, and best match this to our available vacancies at the time. We can't guarantee placing you in your first preference but we will do our very best

There is a high level of trauma cases in the North East node (Wexham and High Wycombe) due to the busy road networks (with one of the busiest road junctions in Europe) and a lot of country lanes. We could offer you a chance to develop and gain experience in a wide variety of work, along with opportunities to develop clinical decision making, as there are a number of hospital options to consider when managing your patients, including two Major Trauma Centres, as well as several cardiac and stroke centres. The NE node is a welcoming, friendly area. With close links to London, this area could offer you what you are looking for!
If you are confirmed to be based at Wexham or High Wycombe these stations attract the following incentives:
- You will receive £1,000 if you stay at your allocated station for 12 months post training (i.e. when you have finished in training and 3rd manning). Please note that these sums are subject to the usual deductions of Tax and NI.
- You will receive additional £3000 (subject to tax and NI) if you stay at your allocated station for 3 years post training.
- We can also offer you up to £1,500 relocation expenses for these stations (High Wycombe and Wexham only). Relocation expenses will be reimbursed in line with the Trust's relocation procedure and only upon receipts.
- 5% High Cost Allowance (Fringe) for Wexham only.
We can also help support and fund the C1 practical for you but ask that you have your provisional C1 entitlement on your licence when you apply, and that you have completed your theory and hazard perception tests during the recruitment process.
Please be advised that should you have to move home as a result of taking up employment within the Trust you may be eligible for assistance with relocation costs up to the sum of £8,000 (subject to conditions outlined within the Trust Relocation Policy).
