Job summary

The Building Maintenance Department at Southampton General Hospital require a skilled maintenance assistant to join our dedicated team on this modern healthcare estate. To keep the essential services running 24/7, you will enjoy working on a wide range of building and services works Trust wide.

Previous experience in an allied industry/application is desirable although not essential. You will be required to demonstrate your skill at interview and previous experience or equivalent at interview. The core elements of the job description require a good knowledge in respect of trades.

Opportunities exist to learn new vocational skills and techniques through specialised training throughout the modern healthcare estate. In addition to this, we promote and support individual academic learning for future career development opportunities.

Job responsibilities

What we are looking for

To provide and receive detailed instruction verbally, written via email and PDA.

Work closely with Building supervisor in providing supervisory support to the gardening team.

To ensure that the team in organised on a daily base and co-ordinate this back to the Building supervisor.

To carryout check on work standards being carried out on site and report back to the building supervisor any issue to be resolved.

To ensure the correct equipment checks are being carried out by all the gardening staff before the equipment is used on each occasion.

To help plan sessional work across the UHS to keep the grounds looking it best all year round.

To manage the bin collection for the green waste making sure that there is always a way to manage the site green waste. It is important that this is manged correctly to prevent backing up of waste that can cause delay in delivery work on time to lack of storage area for the waste on site.

To ensure all gardening equipment is maintained correctly and serviced when required.

To keep the building supervisor updated with this information so planned servicing of the equipment can carried out without disturbance to the working week planned activities.

  • Willingness and ability to undertake the Pesticide Application PA6A qualification
